Reyes (Ocasio) Nieves passed away peacefully on July 5th, 2025, at home in Mooers, New York, surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old.
Reyes was born on January 7, 1931, in Barrio Tibe, Ponce, Puerto Rico.
A devout Catholic, Reyes was involved with various Catholic organizations including the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary, the Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order, and she taught first communion at St. Joseph's Church in Mooers, for many years.
She loved plants and was an avid gardener. She will be missed by all who knew her laugh, smile, and advice.
Reyes is survived by her four children: Ivelisse (Nieves) Kelly, Louis Nieves, Carmen (Nieves) Barcomb, and Richard Nieves as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as one sister.
She was predeceased by her husband of over 65 years, Louis Nieves, as well as two brothers and one sister.
Her family will greet guests on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 10 to 11 AM at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. A Mass of Christian burial will follow. Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Mooers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CVPH Wound Care Center, 89 Plaza Blvd Ste 102, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, in Reyes' memory.
