James (Jimmy) Earl Nash, 79, of South Mills, NC passed away at his daughter’s home in Elizabeth City, NC surrounded by his loved ones on July 5, 2025. He was born on August 17, 1945, and was the son of the late Charlie Lee Nash and Ida Gregory Nash. Jimmy graduated from the Nashville Auto-Diesel College in Nashville, TN and owned and operated J.E. Nash and Son Logging, LLC until he retired. Throughout his life, he enjoyed working on racing engines, drag racing, truck pulling, and fishing with friends and family. He could never go anywhere without finding someone to talk to.
Jimmy began his masonic journey at the Churchland Masonic Lodge #276 and was a current member of New Lebanon Masonic Lodge #314. He was an honorary member of Gatesville Masonic Lodge #126, and had served as Master Mason four times over his 58 years of being a member. Jimmy was a past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #270 in South Mills, NC. Jimmy was a member of Geneva Baptist Church and he was a member of the National Tractor Pullers Association where he was awarded the Hall of Fame Award in November of 2024.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents and siblings, John Nash and Hershey Nash. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred (Faye) Evans Nash; his children, Charles Nash (Patricia), Melinda Hoffman (Ricky), and Jamie Davis (Tommie); seven grandchildren, Megan Sawyer (Chris), Colby Davis, Brandon Davis (Shannon), Jessica Hoffman (Austin), Morgan Nash, Maggie Cox (Benjamin) and Kamryn Nash; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey Sawyer, Paisley Sawyer and Branson Davis.
A memorial service with Masonic Rights for Jimmy will be held at Twiford Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Wood officiating. The family will receive family and friends following the service, in the chapel lobby and at all other times at the residence. There will be visitation on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel.
Jimmy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to New Lebanon Lodge #314, P.O. Box 434, South Mills, NC 27976.
