In Loving Memory of Linda Jean Fritz Walter
1947 – April 26, 2025
Linda Jean Fritz Walter passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at the age of 78, from heart failure at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage, California. She was surrounded by her family—the people she cherished most in the world.
Born in 1947 in Dickinson, North Dakota, Linda was raised on a ranch north of Belfield alongside her parents, Vernon and Dorothy Fritz, and her beloved older sister, Gayle. Life on the ranch shaped her hard working spirit and deep appreciation for nature—qualities that stayed with her always. She attended Belfield High School, and it was there that her journey as a devoted mother began with the birth of her three children: Wiley, Randy, and Jeremy.
In 1985, Linda made a bold move to Salton Sea Beach, California, seeking sunshine and new beginnings. Over time, all her children joined her there, creating a family haven filled with love and resilience. She poured her heart into building a life, opening and running a neighborhood bar she renamed Our Place Saloon—a true reflection of her generous and welcoming spirit. It became a gathering spot where laughter echoed, friendships grew, and Linda’s presence made everyone feel at home.
Later, Linda worked as a weigh master for Aggregate Products and then at Mike’s Tackle Box Bar and Market, where she first met Miguel “Mike” Lopez. Years passed, but when their paths crossed again, it was as if no time had passed. From that moment forward, they were inseparable—30 beautiful years of love, partnership, and unwavering devotion.
Linda was the heart of her family. She loved nothing more than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her talents as a painter and photographer captured the beauty she saw in the world, but it was in her kitchen—often giving directions from her favorite chair when she didn’t feel well—where she truly shined. Her fish tacos, biscuits and gravy, and holiday meals became family legends, seasoned not just with flavor, but with love.
Despite facing many health challenges over the years, Linda never let illness steal her warmth, wit, or strength. Her ability to find joy in small things and to make everyone feel special was her quiet superpower. She gave so much of herself to her family, and in return, we are better, stronger, and more compassionate because of her.
Linda leaves behind her loving partner Miguel, her sons Randy (Darlene) and Jeremy, her stepchildren Michelle, Anna, Stacie and Michael, and twelve adoring grandchildren. She joins in peace those who went before her: her parents Vernon and Dorothy, her sister Gayle Banyai, her son Wiley Walter, and her granddaughter Sierra Walter.
Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Eisenhower Medical Center for the years of dedicated care and kindness shown to Linda.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing that her light continues in the stories we tell, the recipes we pass down, the art we create, and the love we give one another.
Linda will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. She lives on in every laugh shared, every photo snapped, and every warm meal enjoyed together.
We invite you to join us in honoring and celebrating the life of our beloved Linda on Thursday, May 29. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:40 a.m. at Coachella Valley Christian Church in Coachella, CA, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m at the Coachella Valley Public Cemetery in Coachella.
After the service, family and friends are welcome to accompany us to the gravesite to say a final goodbye. We will then gather for lunch and fellowship at the home of Miguel and Linda—a time to share memories, comfort one another, and reflect on the love and light Linda brought into our lives.
