Joyce Hooker Moretz King went home peacefully on May 9, 2025 to be with her Lord and Savior. Born on June 9, 1934, in Concord, NC, to the late Harlan Z. and Lucille Cook Hooker. Joyce was a devoted member of Bethlehem Methodist Church in Climax, NC, where she was actively involved in numerous church groups, including the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class, Bethlehem Friendly Club, Arlene Stokes Circle, funeral committee, and the Basket Case Club.
Her compassionate spirit shone through her volunteer work at Clapp's Assisted Living and her dedication to delivering mobile meals to shut-ins since 1991. Joyce was also a member of the Art of Living Club and the Pleasant Garden Red Hat Society. After a 34-year career, she retired from Thompson Arthur Paving Co/Apex Carolina. She was also a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Joyce's warmth and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. This spirit was complemented by a competitive streak that emerged when playing cards and games, bringing lasting memories to those fortunate enough to play with her. Her presence and sweet soul will be deeply missed.
Joyce was preceeded in death by her first husband, Olen Keith Moretz, and her second husband, James A. King Jr., her parents, brothers Eugene, "Buzzy", Ray, and Bobby, and sister Faye Parrish. A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on June 28th at 3 pm at Bethlehem Methodist Church in Climax, NC, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the joy she brought to so many. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Senior Resources of Guilford (Meals on Wheels).
