It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joyce Elaine Wyche, who departed this life on Friday, May 9, 2025, in her beloved hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. Joyce was born on February 24, 1961, to Leroy and Nettie Ree Smith, who preceded her in death along with her sisters, Geraldine Robinson and Pamela Smith, and her brother, Leroy Smith, III.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend whose love for her family knew no bounds. She is survived by her loving husband, Alphonso Wyche, Jr., whom she married on February 19, 1988. Together, they created a beautiful family that includes their three sons, Terrance D. Wyche, Brian J. Wyche, and Alphonso Wyche, III. Joyce’s legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Temya Smith, Tyler Henry, Brian Smith, Jr., and Brianna Smith, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jemya Henry, Jakari Vashun, and Kaiden Fitzpatrick, Jr.
Joyce was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where she received her education through Duval County Public Schools. Following her passion for caring for others, she worked as a Nurse Tech, embodying the compassion and dedication that defined her life.
Her commitment extended beyond her profession; she was an active member of the Paxon Revival Center Church, where her faith and community involvement enriched the lives of those around her. Joyce’s warm spirit and generous nature drew people to her, leaving a lasting impact on her many friends and acquaintances.
Family gatherings were a cornerstone of Joyce’s life, where she expressed her love through her passion for cooking. Her culinary skills were not just about preparing meals; they were a way for her to connect with her loved ones, to create memories, and to celebrate life’s special moments.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Nettie Ree Smith, her sisters, Geraldine Robinson and Pamela Smith, and her brother, Leroy Smith, III. She is survived by her husband, Alphonso Wyche, Jr.; her sons, Terrance D. Wyche, Brian J. Wyche, and Alphonso Wyche, III; her grandchildren, Temya Smith, Tyler Henry, Brian Smith, Jr., and Brianna Smith; her great-grandchildren, Jemya Henry, Jakari Vashun, and Kaiden Fitzpatrick, Jr.; her siblings, Annie L. Thompson, Leon Smith, Cheryl L. Brown, Darrell E. Smith (Patricia), Angela L. Scales (Darell), and Lynn L. Lundell (Daniel); her father-in-law, Alphonso Wyche, Sr. (Carol); her sisters-in-law, Natalie Clark, Karen Peters, and Ranita McGeathey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many sorrowing friends.
Joyce’s life was a testament to the power of love and dedication to family. She will be remembered for her warmth, her kindness, and her unwavering support for those she loved. In this time of sorrow, let us celebrate the life of Joyce Elaine Wyche, who taught us all the true meaning of devotion and love. May her spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and friends.
