Norma Jean Means Obituary

Norma “Jean” Means, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on April 23, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, on April 12, 1939. She lived a full and dedicated life marked by hard work, faith, and devotion to her family.

Jean grew up in the rolling hills of West Virginia, where she attended Bruceton Mills High School, before furthering her education at Morgantown Business College. She loved raising her family in Elizabeth, PA, for many years prior to relocating to the New Orleans area in 1983. She loved her career and family she created at Aucoin Hart Jewelers where she worked for over 25 years before retiring.

Jean was the beloved daughter of the late George Ray Claude Sisler and Edith Marie Darby Sisler Herring. She was a loving spouse to her late husband, Milton William Means, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage filled with love. Together, they raised two children, Patrick Sean Means (Jaime) and Kathleen Dawn Means Andry (Robert). Her role as a mother was one of her greatest blessings of her life.

Jean's legacy continues to flourish through her grandchildren, Jessica Means McNichols, Justin Andry, and Nicole Andry Hampton (Cody), as well as her great-grandchildren, Claudia McNichols, Andrew McNichols, and Evelynn Hampton. She took immense joy spending time with all of her family. She also leaves behind, her siblings, Johnny Lee Sisler (Glenna), Claude Junior Sisler (Sandra), and Nancy Loise Sisler Nedrow (Randall), as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

A long-standing member of the First United Methodist Church of Slidell, Jean's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an avid crocheter, creating beautiful pieces that were both a hobby and a way of expressing her care for others. She loved spending time outside and could often be found on her back patio where she enjoyed her daily devotions and sipping coffee.

Those who knew her will remember her for the warmth she brought into every room and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. She was able to do this through the travels with family and friends. Her love for her family was her most defining trait, and it is this love that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Memorial services to honor her life will be held at a later date in Uniontown, PA. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church (FUMC) located at 433 Erlanger Ave., Slidell, LA 70458 www.firstumcslidell.org A fund has been established for the group Jean belonged to that crocheted prayer shawls and other charitable endeavors.
