LAFAYETTE ~ Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass in St. John Berchmans Catholic Church (552 Main St. Cankton, LA) for Drucella (Dru) Alice Miller Hukins, age 91, who passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Amelia Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette.

Inurnment will be in St. John Berchmans Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev. Daniel Picard will officiate at the services. Readers will be Lorelai Dru Carpenter and Chase Hukins.

Mrs. Hukins, a native of Cankton and longtime resident of Lafayette, passed away surrounded by loved ones. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend to many.

A woman of deep faith and community spirit, Dru dedicated much of her time to service. She was an active volunteer with the Cub Scouts, proudly serving as Denmother, and also led with heart as a Girl Scout leader. Her devotion extended to her church, where she was a committed member of the Altar Society at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.

Dru found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. She was a talented seamstress and crocheter, an avid reader, and especially loved spending time shopping and baking with her beloved sister, Nell Rose Kahn. Of all the roles she held, her most treasured was that of grandmother — she adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment shared with them.

Dru’s kindness, quiet strength, and generous spirit will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Survivors include three sons, Schuyler Hukins of Lafayette, Carl Hukins and his wife, Maxine, of Cankton, and Colin Hukins and his wife, Charlotte “Lolly”, of Carencro; three daughters, Lucilla “Lucy” Champagne and her husband, Joey, of Lafayette, Rose Marie Hukins of Tampa, FL, and Maria Rothstein and her husband, Allen, of Holiday Island, AR; eight grandchildren, Brandi Carpenter and her husband, David, Jason Hukins, Corey Champagne and his wife, Candace, Cody Northcutt, Shane Hukins and his companion, Chloe Thibodeaux, Jorim Hukins, Chase Hukins, and Mariah Hukins Miller and her husband, Eric; eleven great grandchildren, Hunter Chapman, Lorelai Dru Carpenter, Braylee Champagne, Grayson Champagne, Grace Hukins, Corbin Thibodeaux, Cameron Hukins, Cyrus Hukins, TJ Miller, Lucy Miller, and Amelia Miller; one brother, Ned Ray Miller; and one brother-in-law, Carl Kahn.

She is preceded in death by her husband, A.M. Hukins; her parents, Alpheus Miller and the former Germaine Kidder; one brother, Francis Miller; and one sister, Nell Rose Kahn.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Amelia Manor Nursing Home, Hospice of Acadiana, Debbie Candella (Nursing Director), and her number once hospice nurse, Karen Nelson for all of their love, compassion, and excellent care.
