Tateum Jade DeBower, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly, Iowa.


Tateum was born on January 8, 1991, at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Tateum later went back to school for criminal Justice at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. On June 13, 2020, Tateum was united in marriage to Douglas DeBower at Heritage Global Methodist Church in Waverly. During her life she worked for Kwik Star in Waverly and Shell Rock and at Shell Rock Elementary in the cafeteria.


Tateum’s greatest enjoyment was time with her family, friends, and dogs, but most especially her children. She loved being on the water, swimming, tubing, and kayaking. Her favorite holiday was Halloween, even volunteering to work at the Circle of Ash Haunted House.


Tateum’s memory is honored by: her husband, Doug Debower of Shell Rock; four children, October, Leland, Luke, and Owen DeBower all of Shell Rock; grandmother, Pat Oloff of Texas; mother, Barb; father, Thomas (Kay) Oloff of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Eric Petre of Texas. She was preceded in death by her granfather, Bill Oloff, and a brother, Dakota Petre.


Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Heritage Global Methodist Church in Waverly. Burial will follow at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to Tateum’s family for later designation and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
