Darlene King Mezzell was born June 13, 1960 in Grand Saline, Texas. She had been a resident of Palestine for 25 years, formerly living in Quitman. She worked in accounting for many years.

Darlene passed away at the age of 64 on April 27, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Erdie Lee King and Estaline Collett King; husband, James Mezzell; sisters, Reita Wilhite and Wanda Mings; and brothers, Herman King and Glen King.

Survivors include her only child, Krystle Roberts of Canton; brother, Donnie King of Edgewood; and two grandchildren, Michael & Avery Medford.
