Johnnie Edgerson Obituary

Johnnie Edgerson was born on July 20, 1927, in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was the eldest of two children born to King Edgerson Sr. and Gussie Lane, both of whom preceded him in death.

At the age of 14, Johnnie moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed his education in the Cleveland Public School System and graduated from Central High School. At 18, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. Johnnie served honorably in both World War II and the Korean War, earning several distinctions, including the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

After his military service, Johnnie worked for the City of Cleveland and later joined the United States Postal Service, where he faithfully worked until his retirement in 1979.

Johnnie was united in marriage to Marion Young (deceased), and from this union they were blessed with seven children: Jacqueline, Larry, Michael, Deborah, Reginald, Andre, and Donna. He also had children from a previous marriage to Doris Belcher(deceased): Johnnie Jr (deceased), Barbara (deceased), and Raymond. Additionally, he shared a special bond with his children Beverly Moore and Fred Pierce.

He was a member of the Masons, Johnnie lived a full and joyful life. He was affectionately known as "Johnny Dollar$$$" by his many friends at Skeets. He was a man who cherished family, friendship, good company, and simple pleasures-especially cheering on his favorite sports teams and cruising in his cherished Cadillac Deville.

He departed this life on April 27, 2025, at 97 years old, due to illness. Johnnie leaves behind a powerful legacy of love, strength, and service. He is survived by his brother, King Edgerson Jr., his children: Jacqueline, Larry, Raymond, Beverly, Michael (Cathy), Deborah, Fred, Reginald, Andre, and Donna (Romeo): 55 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren and a host of loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his children Johnnie Jr. and Barbara.

Johnnie will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to resilience, loyalty, and love.
