Lorena M. “Lori” Parks, 84, passed away Thursday May 1, 2025 at Scott County Hospital. She was born February 5, 1941 in Greeley, Colorado; the daughter of Jesse Aaron and Sarah Marie (Reece) Vaughn.
Lori spent her childhood in Athol, Kansas and graduated from Smith Center High School with the class of 1959. After high school she relocated to the Denver area where she worked at the Children’s Hospital as a pediatric nurse’s assistant. She obtained her LPN certificate in 1971 and later in 1998 her CNA license. She worked as a CNA at Rose Hospital until moving to Dighton in 2003.
Lori volunteered her time with the preschool helping with activities and readying supplies for teachers and students. She enjoyed reading, sewing, coloring in adult coloring books, baking pumpkin cookies, tending her flowers, watching sports, and was an avid Denver Nuggets fan. She also loved angels and spent a lifetime collecting them. Lori was patient and always lent an ear for listening. A selfless woman, often times putting others needs before her own. She was so proud of each and every member of her family and enjoyed most of all time spent with those she loved.
Survivors include her children Aaron and Josenita Parks of Reno, Nevada, Lisa Ward, Sara Parks, and Brian Parks all of Dighton, Kansas, 13 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren, one sister Leota Marr, and a brother-in-law- Kenneth Bader, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents- Jesse and Sarah Vaughn, sister- Mary Bader, brother- Jason Vaughn, grandson- Justin Ward, and son-in-law- Dean Ward.
Visitation will take place Monday May 5 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Boomhower Funeral Home of Dighton. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday May 6 at the First Baptist Church of Dighton with Pastor Ken Bowden. Burial will follow in Dighton Memorial Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shields Jayhawks 4-H Club both in care of Boomhower Funeral Home.
