It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Kathy Kirk.
Kathy was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, and after growing up in Montana, and living in California for a few years, she moved to Canada, where she met the love of her life, Marlin Kirk. They were married on November 28, 1981, in Leduc, AB.
During the course of her life, Kathy worked at several jobs ranging from a car hop on roller skates at an A & W drive-in, stringing tennis racquets, working with seniors in a long-term care facility, to senior administrator/HR for PLH Aviation. She carried the strong “Updike” work ethic extremely well - always striving to do the very best she could do, in everything she set her heart and mind to. One thing stood out above the rest - she loved her family fiercely.
Marlin and Kathy moved to Turner Valley in May 2015 and were surrounded by wide open spaces, rolling hills, beautiful mountain views & the love of so many family members living in the area.
Kathy leaves to mourn her sister Francie Hancharuk (Gilbert), her nephews Jamie (Frog) Updike (Chris) and Jason Hancharuk (Natasha), nieces Jaci Updike (Rory), Angie Loewen (Darren) and Kate Updike, brother-in-law Darwin Kirk (Elaine), sisters-in-law Maggie Updike, Sharon Updike, and Colleen Bateman (Robert), nieces Sue Tegart (Jeff) and Crystal Graham, nephews Chris Doherty (Bev), and Adam Bateman. Kathy also leaves behind several great-nieces and great-nephews, along with many cousins and extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents Jim and Mary Updike, sisters-in-law Sharon Perman Updike, and Linda Doherty, her beloved husband, Marlin Kirk, and their pup Penny, and her brothers Jim and Mike Updike.
We miss you immensely Kath, but we're comforted knowing your final moments were so peaceful, taking your last few breaths listening to you and Mar's first dance and wedding song.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer.
Memorial donations may be made to Sheep River Health Trust for Diamond Valley Oilfields General Hospital, palliative care project.
