Surry

Nancy Southard Walker died from Alzheimer’s dementia on April 27, 2025, at her home in Surry. She was born July 22, 1948, in Bangor, Maine to Catherine and Harris Southard.

After graduating from Bangor High School and the University of Maine, Nancy taught first grade in Bangor for 14 years. Nancy married Dale Walker in 1984, and their daughter Lindsey was born two years later. While living in Castine and Orono, Nancy enjoyed herb gardening and needle art with many friends, along with volunteering at local schools. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and genuine love for family.

She is survived by her husband Dale and her daughter Lindsey; stepchildren Carolyn Prien and family, and Daniel Walker; brother-in-law Bob Fortier; nieces Kate Foley and Marianne Dunning, and family; cousin William Roughton; and lifetime friend Mark Pooler. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Susan Fortier.

Visitation will be at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 4-6 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074 or the SPCA of Hancock County, 141 Bar Harbor Rd., Trenton, ME 04605.
