Kathryn Jane Merrifield (née Slade) -

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathryn Jane Merrifield, beloved life

partner of Sam Ogilvie, devoted mother to Jamie [Jamie] and Adam [Tanya], and cherished

grandmother to Dana [Brandon], Reiley [Tara], Grace, and Audrey.

Kathy is survived by her loving siblings Anne (Ron), Hartley Jr. (Karen), Joe (Nanci), and John

(Tracy), her many nephews and nieces Jan, Tannis, Michael, Nolan, Ashley, Steven, and

Logan, and was predeceased by her parents, Hartley Sr. and Dolores Slade.

A trailblazer in her time, Kate built an accomplished career in the technology sector, holding

respected positions at Electrohome and Raytheon. Later, she reinvented herself as a small

business owner and teacher of aesthetics, demonstrating her lifelong passion for learning and

helping others thrive.

Even in retirement, Kate's heart remained full of purpose. For two decades, she was a

dedicated volunteer with the King Edward Public School Breakfast Program, offering kindness,

stability, and nourishment to countless children. Her impact was felt deeply by all who crossed

her path.

Kathryn’s home was a sanctuary—always open to those in need or anyone lucky enough to

enjoy one of her famous double-chocolate chip cookies. She was affectionately known as the

“neighborhood grandmother,” with her kitchen, yard, and play structure welcoming children from

near and far. Activities like crafts, baking, and tie-dyeing were among the neighborhood

favorites—her sidewalk often bright with chalk art and her fence lined with colorful T-shirts

fluttering in the breeze. Her warmth and generosity created a legacy of love that will live on in

the many lives she touched.

Kathryn had a deeply creative spirit and expressed herself through many artistic forms. She

worked skillfully with sculpture and stained glass, creating pieces that were both evocative and

full of heart. In her later years, she found joy in watercolors, capturing quiet moments and

vibrant scenes with a gentle, expressive touch. Her home was always full of art by her and

others, reflecting the warmth, curiosity, and beauty she brought to the world around her.
