Marilyn Elaine Wood

July 15, 1943 – April 27, 2025

Marilyn Elaine Wood (née Steele), 81, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at 4:05 p.m. CST in

Austin, Texas.

Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Marilyn met the love of her life, Roger Wood, at just 15

years old. Together they built a life full of love, adventure, and family, raising two sons. Marilyn lived in

many places over the years—including England and Germany while stationed on Air Force bases, as well

as Mesa, Arizona and ultimately Austin, where she made her home for over 50 years.

Marilyn worked as a receptionist at a dental office and later at JI Companies. Outside of work, she was

known for her boundless energy and vibrant spirit. She enjoyed being active and was an avid runner.

She also enjoyed collecting antiques and was well known for decorating her home with a distinctive and

elegant touch, often featuring an impressive array of clocks that filled each room in her house. She was

a talented seamstress—she even sewed the bridesmaids’ dresses for her son Stephen’s wedding.

Marilyn loved to travel and explore, especially with her beloved friends in “The Bridge Club,” whose

adventures took them to China, Italy, and across the United States.

She is survived by her sons, David Drew Wood of Napa, California, and Stephen Daniel Wood of

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her daughters-in-law, Jennifer Rachele Wood of Napa, California, and Cindy

Wood of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Kyle David Wood of Ukiah, California, Claire

Marie Wood of Petaluma, California, Mindy Wood Coelho of San Antonio, Texas, Amber Wood May,

Austin Wood and Zachary Wood all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and five great-grandchildren, Lily

Wood of Sonoma, California, Eliah Wood, Evan Wood, Elaine May all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and

James Coelho of San Antonio, Texas.

In honor of Marilyn’s generous heart and adventurous spirit, the family asks that donations be made to
