Catherine "Cathy" Sears Martin Obituary

Catherine “Cathy” Sears Martin, 78, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, surrounded by her family, love, and care.

Cathy was born on October 19, 1946 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina to James and Marion Sears. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was marked by compassion and joy for those she held dear. She is survived by her children, Hunter (Heather) and Megan Martin-Wall (Trent Wall) and her cherished grandchildren, Jack and Anne Delaney Wall; and her sister, Marion Libonate (Tom). She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James “Jim” Sears.

A dual graduate of Averett University and Salem College, Cathy focused her studies on social work and elderly care—laying the foundation for her advocacy for the homebound. She channeled her passion into creating a homebound ministry guidebook for her local church, Mount Tabor Methodist, helping ensure that those unable to attend weekly worship still felt spiritually connected and supported. Many parishioners were deeply touched by her dedication and grace. Cathy also had a special place in her heart for animals, having rescued and loved many dogs who thrived under her devoted care.

A private memorial service will be held later this month at Mt. Tabor Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to one of her favorite charities, Stepping Stones Canine Rescue, via the Donations link below.

Her family is profoundly grateful to the many members of the healthcare community who cared for Cathy with tenderness and respect, especially nursing staff of Salemtowne Assisted Living, the Pulmonology teams at Forsyth Medical Center, and the caring staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
