Kuzyk, John Michael:
26 February 1933 to 27 April 2025
Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on Sunday 27 April 2025, at the age of 92, with his family present. The last of his generation.
Predeceased by his parents John Kuzyk and Ann Telewka (Ukraine) and wife Theresa Kuzyk (2006). Loving Dad to Aunna-Marie and John and his wife Monica. Proud Detko to Christian (Sarah) and Michael (Courtney) Hager and Elizabeth (Adam) and Peter (Paige) Kuzyk. Beloved great grandfather to Kiefer Hager. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and friends.
John was born in Kitchener, 102 Wilmot St. He would often point out the new high rise buildings on Victoria and Michael Streets and say, they are the monument marking his birthplace. John was always full of historical stories about Kitchener and his youth. He also enjoyed sharing his research about the family heritage which he documented in a book with his granddaughter.
John started his working career at BF Goodrich (1952-1954) working in the building we know as the Schwaben Club on King St. Then spent the remainder of his working career in the brewery industry - Dow (1954 to 1967), Carling O'Keefe (1967 to 1970), and Rothman/Foster/Molson (1970 to 1990). He commuted daily on the 401 for 20 years, from Kitchener to Toronto. John retired in 1990, to begin his next career, where he and Bapka looked after Elizabeth, Peter and Michael, from 4 months old, through their high school days.
He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Manitou Drive and The Moose Lodge, Wabanaki Drive, where he and a small group of friends would meet each day, and solve the problems of the world at the round table, enjoying a few beverages. He was also involved in the annual West Ward Reunion.
John's family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 PM - 3:45 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Memorial service will take place at 4:00 PM in the funeral home chapel followed by a reception at the Moose Lodge, 655 Wabanaki Drive, Kitchener. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the MS Society of Canada or the Arthritis Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
