Janis Anna Mahaffey Stewart passed away peacefully on Sunday April 27, 2025. She is home with Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Her lovely smile will be fondly remembered.

Janis was born on January 27, 1934 in Greer, South Carolina. Her family moved to Salisbury, North Carolina and she graduated from Granite Quarry High School in 1952. Janis worked at Montgomery Ward where she met her husband, John Stewart. They married on June 26, 1960 in Salisbury, N.C. and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before John died on December 31, 2010.

Janis is survived by her three loving daughters, Judy and Mark Buck of Chester, MD and grandson Aaron; Karen and Don Beskeen of Grass Valley, CA and grandchildren Elle, Brady (and Kelli); and Susan and David Miller of Crownsville, MD and grandsons Jake (and Natalie), Alex and Drew. Janis is survived by four of her five siblings, Joan Pays of Winston-Salem, NC, Clive Mahaffey of Salisbury, NC, Winston Mahaffey of Faith, NC, and Orrin Mahaffey of Sumter, SC.

The family moved numerous times due to John's job as store manager at Montgomery Ward, finally to Salisbury, MD in 1986 and eventually retiring there. Janis enjoyed many wonderful years in Salisbury until she recently moved to an assisted living facility in Annapolis to be closer to her daughters. She loved attending church, teaching Sunday School, square dancing, traveling, golfing, playing and winning at cards, and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held in the chapel at Sringhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, MD on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
