Jack Rowland Humphrey Obituary

Jack Rowland Humphrey Sr., 95, of Titusville, Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Born on February 13, 1930, in Louisville, Kentucky, Jack was the son of the late Ernest and Lillian Humphrey.

Jack served his country proudly in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army Air Corps, receiving an honorable discharge in 1955. He went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky, remaining a loyal Wildcats basketball fan for life. Even in his later years, you could often find Jack wearing his favorite UK cap and shirt and he was never shy about showing off his team pride.

An avid golfer, Jack shared his passion for the game with his son, Jack Jr., and many memorable days were spent together on the golf course. He also worked at Brevard Community College for more than twenty-two years, sharing his love for the sport. A true Floridian at heart, Jack also enjoyed days on the water fishing with his buddies.

He also had a deep love for music, particularly jazz and the smooth croon of Frank Sinatra. Seeing Sinatra in concert—twice—was a cherished memory shared with his wife, Brenda.

Jack was the kind of man who could strike up a conversation with anyone and walk away with a new friend. He had a sharp wit and a dry sense of humor. Laughter and a touch of sarcasm were part of everyday life with Jack, and his quick comebacks and storytelling will be missed.

Also, he cherished his time spent with Brenda. Whether it was a quiet dinner, a movie night, or her showing up with a milkshake or McFlurry during his hospital stays, those everyday moments meant the world to him. He never wanted to be without her, and their one-on-one time was always a great joy to him.

Jack’s legacy is one of deep connection, laughter, loyalty, and love for his family. He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Brenda Humphrey; his son Jack (Debra) Humphrey Jr.; daughter Kelley Wood; grandchildren Lesley (Lito) Novoa, Jacob Bercaw, Emmalee Wood, Avery Wood, and Drew Wood II; and great-granddaughter Alyssa Novoa.

A time of visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at North Brevard Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or the American Red Cross (www.redcross.org).
