Brian Kenneth Carlson Obituary

Brian Kenneth Carlson, age 78, of Greensboro, GA, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at his  home, surrounded by the warmth and love of his treasured family. Born on October 19, 1946, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Kenneth Bollard Carlson and Reva Johnson Carlson. A proud graduate of McDowell High School in Erie, PA, Brian’s journey was marked by extraordinary service and unwavering dedication. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Captain as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War—a testament to his bravery and commitment. His thirst for knowledge led him to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he continued to grow and pursue his passions.

On March 23, 1967, Brian married the love of his life, Laurette “Lolly” Schley, and together they built a beautiful life. His love of people and gift for business led to several moves from Pennsylvania, to Florida, to Virginia as he continued up the corporate ladder. His last (and favorite position) was located in Kennett Square, PA where he acted as the Senior Vice President at State Farm Insurance.

In 2007, he retired, and in June 2010, they moved to Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA to be closer to their grandchildren.  He was a devoted member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, where he served with the Knights of Columbus—a heartfelt reflection of his generous spirit and faith.

Brian’s passions brought joy and excitement to his life: golfing, boating, horseback riding, and exploring the world with his beloved family. His kindness, his zest for life, and his unwavering love touched everyone he knew.

Brian never met a stranger and you could often find him engaging in conversations with anyone from the dry cleaners to a Publix employee. He loved people and wanted to know everyone’s “story”. “What is the story of “John” as told by “John…" was his most favorite way to get to know people. “Everyone has a story” he would say, and he heard hundreds of them over the years. His story may be over, but his legacy will remain strong.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Laurette “Lolly” Schley Carlson of Greensboro, GA; daughters, Katherine Rowan Carlson (Daniel Lavery) and Meaghan Elizabeth Carlson, both of Greensboro, GA; son, Geoffrey Brian Carlson (Paula) of Kennesaw, GA; sister, Renee Felix (Donald) of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Patricia Carlson of Holyoke, MA; and six dear grandchildren, Sebastian Carlson, Grace Carlson, Simon Carlson, Aidan Carlson, Sara Carlson, and William Lavery. He is also survived by many other cherished relatives and friends whose lives he enriched with his warmth and wisdom. Brian was preceded in death by his beloved son, Christopher George Carlson; his brother, Donald Carlson; and his faithful dog, Ella.
