Charlie Tucker Mauldin Obituary

Obituary for Charlie Tucker Mauldin

Charlie “Chuck” Mauldin passed away peacefully in his Canyonville Oregon home on April 27, 2025 after 91 years of life. Chuck is survived by his wife Chun Cha “Joe” Mauldin, his son Jimmy Mauldin, his wife Lynne and grandchildren Alek, Brady, and Keelie.  Chuck is also survived by sons Kenneth and Keith Mauldin and their children, and daughter Tammy (Mauldin) Leszczynski and her children, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and close family friends Derek, Jodi and Saebrah Rogers.

Chuck grew up in Turner County, Georgia with his siblings Elanor “Jean” (Triphon) and Flora “Flo” (Synder).  In 1952, he joined the Navy and served for four years which included time in the Korean Conflict.  After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Chuck joined the Army as a Staff Sergeant and Armor Crewman in 1959.  He was in the Army for many years, including time in the Vietnam War and received numerous medals and honors while in the military.  In 1967, Chuck met his wife Chun Cha while stationed in South Korea.  He came back to the United States with his wife and new son, and settled in Canyonville Oregon in 1976.

Chuck was greatly involved in the growth and success of his new hometown.  He was a police officer for the City of Canyonville for 10 years and served as the Chief of Police from 1980 to 1987.  He also served as Canyonville City Councilman from 2005 to 2008.  Chuck was active in the Canyonville Lions Club for many years and volunteered to grill, barbeque and flip pancakes at many events such as Pioneer Days, music festivals, and school fund-raisers.  In 1984, Chuck received the Lions Club Citizen of the Year award and received the Lions Club Lifetime Achievement / Special Recognition award in 2016.  As a lifelong VFW member, Chuck was present at every Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremony until his health limited his attendance.

Chuck had numerous hobbies, from tinkering in his shop to building anything from scratch.  There are many stories about adventures with his airplane, dune buggy, VW bug, motorcycles, boats, go-cart and other questionable, street legal machines on wheels.  He loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors in the local hills and valleys.  Later in life, Chuck liked to ride his motorized scooter to the nearby side yard and enjoy bonfires and beers with his family and friends.

Chuck will be loved by many, remembered and missed by all.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Chuck from 2:30 to 5:00 pm on May 31 with a military flag ceremony at 3:00 pm.  All activities will take place at the Javelin Ormond Community Center at 110 SW Pine St in Canyonville.  There is no graveside service and the family requests NO Flowers.
