Betsy Tyner Lewis Obituary

Betsy Tyner Lewis, 72, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, in Wicomico Church, Virginia.

Born on April 30, 1952, in Aberdeen, Maryland, Betsy brought warmth and compassion into the world from the very beginning. Her life was marked by a deep love for animals and a profound devotion to her family.

Betsy shared her life with her beloved husband, Paul Van Lewis. Together they built a life rooted in care and companionship bonding over their shared love of animals and camping trips. She was a devoted mother to her son, Joshua Yates Dodson, and daughter, Rachel Linn Dodson. Her joy extended to the next generation through her cherished grandson, Jacob Wyatt Dodson.

A lifelong animal lover, Betsy found particular joy in the company of her dogs Ziva and Echo. Her affection for animals was not just a pastime but a defining part of who she was—her gentle spirit and nurturing heart were evident in every bond she formed with the creatures she loved so dearly.

She is survived by her husband Paul Van Lewis; son Joshua and wife Christina Dodson and grandson Jacob; daughter Rachel Dodson and partner Rick Van Vliet; her older brother Bill Tyner and wife Sandy; her older sister Susan Tyner Chilton; and younger sister Kim Ferland and husband Wayne; and many nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at a later date.
