Patricia Ann Masters Obituary

Patricia Ann (Turner) Masters, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025 at the age of 92.

Born In Kalamazoo on January 24, 1933 to Margaret Sawyer and Howard Turner, her family lived in several cities in Michigan before settling in Jackson, Michigan with her sister Evelyn and brother Arthur. She met her husband of almost 70 years, Donald Eugene Masters, in high school, began dating when they both attended Jackson Junior College, and were married in 1955 in the backyard of her parents’ house. They raised a wonderful family on camping trips, homemade plays, and pancakes: Alan (Jane Ratcliff), Julie (Dave) Olney, Karen (Simon) VanBeek, Lisa (Terry) Daly, and Gunnar Stålklint Suarez (Alberto) who joined the family as an exchange student in 1981. She is also survived by her husband Don, brother Arthur Turner, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Pat lived a life of generosity, dedication to causes she believed in, like women’s education, and service to others. As an educator at Mary Lyon Nursery School for over 30 years, volunteer for countless community causes, and mother figure to many (even beyond her own family), Pat was known for her kindness, fun spirit, and calming nature. She mastered the art of savoring the simple joys of everyday life, using the good china for special events like dinner with a grandchild, enjoyed flowers, books, poetry, and having meals by the water, and travelled both near and far. Despite not being able to carry a tune in a bucket she encouraged her family to make music and art, play games, swim in lakes, and make time for each other. She had a way of making you feel special.

In true Masters fashion, she let the calming sounds of spoons clinking on ice cream bowls and family members chatting and laughing send her peacefully off. She will be truly missed. Memorial service will be held on Sunday June 8 at Arbor Grove Congregational Church, 2621 McCain Road, Jackson Michigan. Service will be at 2pm with visitation starting at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Arbor Grove Congregational Church or to PlannedParenthood.org.
