Our beloved and beautiful mother, Louise Adele Cronkrite (Dion), age 77, died on April 26, 2025 surrounded by her four children - Milton, Brian (wife Missy), Tammy (husband Chad) and Kelly. Born in Canada on August 15,1947 to Adele and Oscar Dion, she was welcomed into a very large and loving family. She later moved to the US to begin her own family and journey.
Louise was married for 33 years to George W. Cronkrite, who preceded her in death on June 25, 2009. Alongside her husband she raised her four children in a small happy home on Lake Champlain. In 1992, Louise graciously welcomed into the family home her special needs sister-in-law, Patricia A. Cronkrite (Aunt Patty), for whom she took care of for almost 20 years. This act was a true testament to her devotion to family and further instilling in her children and grandchildren the value of family, empathy, compassion, and kindness.
Louise worked at Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point from 1991 to 2004. In her later years, she worked part time in the office with her daughter at Poirier True Value. In both roles, she was known for her strong work ethic, her intelligence, her honesty, her attention to detail, her caring nature, and her lovely smile. She was a shining example of a good and genuine person.
Her most notable and loved role in life was being a grandmother. Lovingly known as Memere Louise to her grandchildren - Destiny, Alexia, Owen, Baylon, and Jake, who all adored her in return. She was a devoted grandmother and cherished her role in their lives. Every grandchild knew they were loved and how proud she was of them. She kept track of their hobbies, sporting events, school functions, and journeys through life.
Known for her dedication to her family, her beautiful blue eyes, and her sometimes stubborn, feisty, and fiery nature, she was truly one of a kind. She was smart and kept up on current events and enjoyed a good discussion – maybe more of a debate. She was an avid, sometimes lucky, bingo player. She was an exceptional cook and her home was the central gathering place for family dinners, parties, summer weekends, and holidays. She loved to dance and her garage was often a makeshift dance floor filled with laughter, music, family, friends, and neighbors. Her yard was often filled with cars, campers, tents, bonfires, family, and friends - she made everyone feel welcome and cared for. While she loved her time at her small home on the Lake, she had an adventurous side too, attending concerts and making memories through road trips to Maine and traveling to Florida with family.
Her generosity made her selfless and compassionate, always caring for others before herself. She was the glue that held our family together through the loss of her husband and our father George, the loss of Aunt Patty, and the tragic loss of her oldest grandson Owen. In the face of her own grief and pain, she did all she could to provide comfort, wisdom, faith, and encouragement for her family. She is a testament to what empathy, genuineness, and the unconditional love of a Mother is.
We are blessed to be able to call her Mom and Memere Louise. She is survived by her loving children and grandchildren, several brothers and sisters, lots of nieces and nephews, and her cat named Minou.
