Dover, NH: Jay Eric Mackey, 63, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Born on October 31, 1961, in Dover, NH, he was the son of Harrison D. and Joyce (Martin) Mackey.
Jay was a lifelong resident of Dover, where he graduated from Dover High School in 1979. As a standout leader of the Green Wave Basketball team, he earned championship honors and was affectionately known in the community as "Jay Bird" by his peers.
A true sports enthusiast, Jay had a deep love for basketball and football, which he shared with his family and friends. He loved attending games, whether on the sidelines or in the stands, and his infectious laugh and vibrant personality made every experience even more memorable. He will be remembered for his unwavering support, his bright spirit, and the lasting memories he created with those closest to him. Jay was also a dedicated member of The Elks, where he built lifelong friendships, especially at the Dover and Portsmouth lodges.
Jay is survived by his wife of 11 years, Susan; their beloved German Shepherd, Chloe; his sister, Lynda Hamilton and husband, Don; his sister, Ann Mackey, and his children and their spouses, Ian and Kate Dobens, Nena and Scott Behan, Cortney and Kyle Henning, Joshua and Melanie Botto, and Zachary and Jessica Botto; his five grandchildren, Shep, Jordan, Hunter, Shelby, and Anna; as well as nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harrison and Joyce Mackey, and his brother, Harrison "Chip" Mackey.
Jay’s life was filled with stories, and we take comfort in knowing he’s sharing them now with those who have gone before him. He will be deeply missed by all who know him.
