Helen LaVonne Orme, age 97, passed away April 27, 2025, at Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak, IA.
Helen was born February 20,1928, in Council Bluffs, to the late Arthur and Fern (Miller) Moen, and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the Class of 1945. She attended Omaha University and worked at the Union Pacific Railroad headquarters for a short time. She was united in marriage to Ruel E. Orme on July 18,1948 and lived in Neola, Iowa until she moved to assisted living in Red Oak in 2012.
Helen loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and passed on many wonderful recipes.
Helen was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Neola where she also taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed being in the Women's Circle at church and the Neola Community Choir. She loved flowers, birds, butterflies, gardening and her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents Helen is preceded in death by her husband Ruel in 2008; brother Arthur Dean Moen; daughter-in-law Sharon Orme; sister-in-law Martha Moen.
Helen is survived by sons Terry Orme, of Denton, NE., Randy Orme and wife Bonnie, of Red Oak, IA.; grandchildren, Amy Smith, of Council Bluffs, Jason Orme and wife Sara, Lucas Orme and wife Julie and Caleb Orme and wife Abbey, all of Red Oak; great-grandchildren Chloe Bennett, Starr Smith, Boone, Josie, Penny, Henry, James and Owen Orme; brother Don Moen, of Council Bluffs.
Visitation Friday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Neola. Helen will be laid to rest with husband Ruel in Neola Township Cemetery followed by a luncheon back at church. Family will direct memorials.
