Dwain Joseph Watkins, age 96, of Oxford, PA, died on April 27, 2025. Born in Chester, PA, on October 7, 1928, he was the son of the late Congressman George Robert Watkins and Hilda S. Watkins. Dwain graduated from West Chester High School in 1946 and the University of Delaware with a Business Administration degree in 1950. He subsequently received his master’s degree in one year with honors from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He was employed as a district manager of Ford Motor Company until 1952 when he joined his brother to become a cofounder and cochairman of Watkins System; a grouping of truck companies and related services, and various subsidiary Watkins companies. The company headquarters were located on Route 202, Concordville, PA. Dwain was also part-owner and executive vice-president of Blue Line Transfer Company, Inc. of Chester, PA. He retired from all business in December 1996.
Dwain had past affiliations with the American Management Association, the National Truck Dealers’ Association, and the GMC Truck Dealer Council. His past civic positions included the Board of Directors of Sigma Nu Alumni Association, the Board of Directors of West Chester Exchange Club, and an incorporator and board member of Riddle Memorial Hospital. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge #625 F. and A.M. of Concordville, PA. He was also a member of the North East River Yacht Club, Classic Yacht Club of America, Wilmington Power Squadron, North East Stock Club, and B.P.O. Elks Lodge #853.
Dwain, along with his wife Kay, was a member of St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church in North East, MD, where he lived for many years before moving to Ware Presbyterian Village in Oxford, PA.
Dwain is survived by two daughters: Debora W. Danby (Scott) of Chadds Ford, PA, and Kathryn W. Marcolina of Honey Brook, PA; daughters-in-law: Donna G. Watkins of Garnet Valley, PA, and Jocelyn C. Watkins of West Chester, PA; six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Dwain was preceded in death by his brother, Robert G. Watkins, his wife of 68 years, Kathryn “Kay” Wood Watkins, and sons: Dwain Wood “Woody” Watkins, Joseph Lawrence Watkins, and son-in-law Peter J. Marcolina.
A private viewing and funeral service will be held for the immediate family.
