Holly Ilene Schick, 72, resident of Alexandria VA, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, a beloved daughter of the late Lee E. Nokes and Dolly I. Nokes. She grew up in a loving and tight knit family that included her devoted younger brother, Joe E. Nokes and late grandmother Mildred Harris affectionately referred to as "Mamo."
After graduating from University of Maryland, she married and became a loving and devoted mother of Erin I. Schick. Erin was Holly's sidekick and best friend until her passing at the age of 31 in 2010. Along with Joe and Erin, the three enjoyed traveling, boating, seeing wildlife and spontaneous laughter.
Holly was a talented and vibrant soul who truly brought light and laughter to those around her. She loved the diversity of the people she worked with and cared deeply about making others feel seen, heard, and valued. She loved the arts and attending performances at the Kennedy Center and other music concerts, symphony orchestra performances, and opera venues. She had a passion for needlepoint, artwork, and antiques. Holly cherished life's quiet pleasures: long scenic drives, reading, and spending time with her and Erin's beloved cats throughout the years.
Holly had a long-lasting career in public service for over 40 years, excelling and attaining many awards in Business and Economic Development at the local, state and federal levels. She retired from the US SBA in 2018 as Director Small Business Mentor Protégé Program. She also worked for the Ohio Department of Development for over 20 years and served as State Director of the SBDC. Her public career began with the Economic Development Division at the City of Tallmadge in Ohio in 1978.
Holly will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving brother Joe Nokes who knew her as a source of unconditional love, warm hugs, and endless encouragement. She had many close friends.
A celebration of life memorial will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 3:00 pm with a visitation an hour prior at The COHatch: Garden Room (240 S. State St., Westerville, OH). Parking will be available in the rear of the church, across the street, and on the street.
