Dona was born in the Dundalk area of Baltimore, Maryland on December 29, 1956. Her family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she attended Christ the King School and Saint Pius X Catholic High School. Dona shared many memories with her six sisters and two brothers, including family meals and picnics at Stone Mountain State Park. Her siblings describe her as a warm and compassionate sister – gracious, beautiful, and kind.
Dona married Richard Zucco in 1984 and moved to Brecksville, Ohio where her three children, Alexander, Elizabeth, and Kathleen were born. She told everyone how much her husband loved her and expressed to him that “God knew what he was doing when we were brought together.” She loved her three children very much and spent many hours at home with them playing, interacting, teaching, and helping them grow. She was a wonderful wife and mother – their light and support through the years.
Smart and driven, Dona went back to college, earned a degree in Applied Science, and worked at University Hospitals and The Cleveland Clinic as an Inpatient Medical Coder. Dona retired in 2016, and she and Richard moved to Summerville, South Carolina in 2019 where she enjoyed card making, visits with her children and stepdaughter Jessica and her family, and spending time with her two grandsons.
Dona was devoted to her Catholic faith. She placed notes on the mirror in her bathroom with prayers of encouragement and sentiments of hope, calling upon God to hear the needs of her family, a testament to how close she kept them to her heart. She attended mass with Richard at Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church and quickly made many dear friends. As Dona realized her mortal life was nearing its end, she expressed a strong desire to pass on Divine Mercy Sunday and Our Lord answered her final prayer.
Dona is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Alexander (Brittany) Zucco, Elizabeth (Bryan) Zucco, and Kathleen (Tyler) Malson; step-daughter, Jessica (Coy) Nesbitt; sisters, Renee Meredith, Darlene Corso, Dawn (Bill) Royer, Mary (Alex) Bird, Sharon (Tommy) Wood, John (Robin) Meredith, Tim (Sharyl) Meredith, and Karolyne (Troy) Thompson; sister-in-law, Cathleen Zucco; aunt, Darlene Dail; and grandchildren, Grayson Zucco and Ethan Zucco. Dona was preceded in death by her parents, Karolyne and John Meredith; grandparents, Mildred Carney
Shealey and Joseph Asa Shealey, and James Chester Meredith and Laodicea Goble Meredith; aunt and uncle, Sharon and Robert Lewis; and uncle, Shelmon Dail.
Beautiful inside and out, Dona was kind to her family and hospice nurses until the day she passed. We are blessed to have felt her love, because being loved by Dona was truly a gift. We will miss you and love you forever. Rest in peace our angel, until we meet again.
