Dale Kelso, age 69, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away at IU Methodist on April 27, 2025 surrounded by family.
Dale enjoyed games and sports with family and friends. Dale was always an avid competitor in whatever he did. His favorite games were bowling, golf, rummy, and euchre. But nothing overshadowed his love to compete with his family, especially his boys. According to Jonathan and Derrick, “Dad could fix anything and was always involved with whatever we were doing as we grew up. So much so, that our house was the hang-out spot and many of our friends also called him Dad”.
Dale retired in 2022 from PPG. Although they moved to Tennessee, Dale remained a rabid COLTS fan, naming one of his dogs “Edge”, his current dog “Lucky”, and his cat Reggie. He and Wendy recently moved back to Indy from Tennessee to be closer to family.
Dale is survived by his wife, Wendy, two sons, Jonathan Schaeffer, and Derrick Kelso, granddaughter, Ava Schaeffer: Sisters, Cheryl (Rick) Watkins, Cyndi (Russ) Hendricks, Darlene Kelso, Stepbrother Robert Clark, nephew John Kelso III (John II, father), Johnna Kelso (Richard, father), and brother-in-law Tim (Patti) Stewart. Nieces and nephews include (Cheryl & Rick) 4 nephews & 2 nieces, (Cyndi & Russ) 1 niece and 1 nephew, (Darlene) 3 nieces, Robert 2 nephews & 2 nieces, and (Tim & Patti) 1 nephew and 2 nieces.
Dale also leaves behind several other great nieces, great nephews, cousins, family and friends. The family prays for all of them as well, as we grieve this sudden passing.
Dale was predeceased in death by his parents, John, Sr. & Phyllis Kelso, brothers John Kelso II, Richard Kelso, and nephew Richard Kelso, Jr.
The immediate family plans to have a private celebration of life for Dale. Dale had discussed end of life plans, and the family is carrying them out as requested. We ask all to respect this decision.
