Virgil T. Green age 69 of Greenville, passed away at 6:16 a.m. Sunday April 27, 2025, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Dale Deverick officiating. Callers 11:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Mt.Auburn Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 1377 and others. The family will receive memorials to the VFW Post 1377 at Donnell-Wiegand.
Virgil Thomas Green, the son of Rollo “Lefty” Green and Juanita Green, was born on Monday, November 7, 1955. Virgil grew up in Greenville and attended the public Schools and Greenville High School. Virgil answered his countries call by joining the United States Army on October 10, 1974 in St. Louis, and honorably served for three years serving as lineman. He was honorably discharged on October 17, 1977, in Fort Carson, Colorado. Virgil returned home and worked in the Oil Fields in Oklahoma for several years. He then was a machinist in Litchfield for many years. Virgil was an avid Nascar fan, enjoyed Westerns, camping and fishing.
Virgil is survived by his daughter Tiffany (Fred) Hill of Greenville, sister, Linda Sue Green Holmes of Greenville, half-brother Rex (Sally) Stone of Pocahontas, seven grandchildren including Marissa, Makayla, Kylie, Conner, Bryson, Gianna, Caiden, great-grandchildren including Journey, Jersey, Dempsey, and Legend.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents Rollo and Juanita Green, his son Jeremy Paul Gwinner and sister Vickie Lee Green.
