David M. Baker, 78, of Fort Ashby, WV, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Complete Care at Dawn View in Fort Ashby.
Born on October 28, 1946, in Keyser, WV, he was the son of the late Olan Loman Baker and Macel Rebecca (Yokum) Baker. He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Carl Wayne Burns, II.
David was a man of great accomplishment and character. He was a graduate of Keyser High School in 1964 and went on to pursue his passion for business, finance, and marketing by completing his undergraduate studies and achieving two Masters Degrees from Frostburg State College. Throughout his career, David made significant contributions in the fields of purchasing and financial management, working in various power plants with dedication and excellence. He also served his country in the United States Air Force.
Beyond his professional achievements, David was a father, grandfather, son, and brother. He is survived by his son David Victor "Vic" Baker and wife Amy and grandchildren Gabrielle and Zachary of Morgantown, WV and his daughter Tamica Ann (Baker) Fertig and her family. David also leaves behind his sister Sandra K. Baker and partner Ken Miers of Keyser, a loyal friend, Dennis Reel and his cousin Barbara S. Tenney, who was not only his caregiver but also his companion and confidante.
David had a special bond with nature, finding solace and joy in hunting and watching the deer. His 1995 red Ford F150 pick-up truck, a treasured possession handed down from his father, symbolized his love for tradition and family. This truck that he so lovingly cared for will now be passed on to his son, Vic, as a reminder of David's legacy of love and care.
Services will be private for the family.
The Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
"It's A Beautiful Day in Heaven"
Death is but a passing from darkness into light. I awakened from my sleep and beheld a glorious sight.
It's a beautiful day in Heaven. Love is everywhere. Peace and comfort surround me. No place on earth can compare.
I could never begin to describe the wondrous things I see. If you could glimpse at heaven, you'd shed no tears for me.
Keep my memory in your heart. Time will pass and then, one beautiful day in Heaven, we'll all be together again.
