She is survived by her husband, Ron Grindle of Gainesville, Georgia; her son, Jeff Briscoe and his wife, Merri, of Gainesville, Georgia; her daughter, Lesley Scott and husband, David, of Braselton, Georgia; stepson, Ronny Grindle and wife, Beth, of Greenville, South Carolina; five beloved grandchildren, Jackson, Macy, Carter, Lucas, and Cooper; her sister, Bonnie Maxey of Vista, California; and her brother, Jimmy Ross of Oxford, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her father, Orman Ross and mother, Dell Ross of Oxford, Mississippi.
Carla was born on July 19, 1950, in Greenville, Mississippi, but grew up in Oxford, Mississippi. There she began her working career with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oxford, MS. After moving to Gainesville in 1979, Carla became employed by Home Federal Savings and Loan. There she was a secretary and soon became an administrative assistant to the CEO, James Mathis Sr. He was a community leader and was instrumental in many civic activities in and around Gainesville. Carla was involved with carrying out many of Mr. Mathis’ visions, such as the creation of an interpretive association dedicated to the enrichment of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Along with duties related to banking, Carla was involved in getting Chattahoochee Oconee Heritage Association up and running. She was the supervisor of a number of gift shops in the national forest, selling items to enhance the visitor’s experience to the national forest. After 33 years of dedicated service to her banking career, she retired from Suntrust Bank in 2013.
Carla was a faithful believer in our Lord Jesus Christ. She and her husband were faithful members of Pinecrest Baptist Church in Gainesville. Pinecrest is where she found her love for working with the children in the childrens’ nursery every Sunday morning after her bout with Alzheimer’s began.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pinecrest Baptist Church in her memory. A portion of these donations will provide support to both local and foreign missions. (2520 Mountain View Rd, Gainesville, GA 30504)
