Marilyn Burton (aka Mar, Marsy) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
She is survived by her loving husband Hal Burton; her son Ryan (Jennifer) DeWaele; her stepchildren Nicole (Norm) Grondin and Jeff (Kristel) Burton; her grandchildren Ari, Alyssa (John), Baiden, Brooklyn, Ethan, Isaak, and Hilary; her siblings John (Jan), Ken (Debra), and Ann (Bob); and countless extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Jennifer, her sister Michelle, her father Melvin Gordon, her mother Iole Hiebler, and her stepfather Henry Hiebler.
Marilyn so deeply loved everyone in our blended family and carried an infectious joy wherever she went. She had a beautiful spirit, full of love, laughter, and warmth. She loved to dance, to laugh, and to lift the spirits of everyone around her. Her kindness, zest for life, and radiant energy left an unforgettable imprint on all who knew her.
Born on March 9, 1947, in Evanston, Illinois, Marilyn’s early years were filled with adventure as her engineer father’s work with NASA’s Apollo program took the family to St. Louis, Missouri and Fort Worth, Texas before they eventually settled in St. Petersburg, Florida.
She graduated from Notre Dame Catholic girls’ high school and attended business college before building a successful career in the real estate mortgage and loan industry. Marilyn was recognized for her organization, reliability, and strong work ethic.
In 2001, Marilyn met Hal at St. Pete Beach. Their love quickly blossomed, and a little over a year later she moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to join Hal full time. They spent eleven joyful years together in Calgary, surrounded by family and friends, before the pull of her hometown led them back to St. Petersburg.
Over the past twelve years, Marilyn and Hal enjoyed countless road trips across the United States and Canada, making memories that will be cherished forever.
Wherever life took her, Marilyn built lasting connections. Her happy, outgoing nature created deep bonds with family and friends that stood the test of time.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be announced at a later date.
May her beautiful spirit and treasured memories bring comfort and peace to all who knew and loved her.
