Pastor Pete Hults

East Poultney - Edward “Pete” Charles Hults, 87 of East Poultney died peacefully at his home on Sunday afternoon April 27, 2025 surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 2, 1937 in Proctor the son of Dr. Charles Edward and Margery ( Tarble ) Hults.

Pastor Pete graduated from the West Rutland High School in 1955.

He proudly served in the U. S. Navy as a hospital corpsman. He served aboard the USS Thuban, USS Tidewater, USS Fulton and finally in Vietnam aboard the USS Long Beach. He retired after 20 years in 1975.

Following his retirement he entered the Bangor Theological Seminary in Bangor, ME, graduating in 1980. He served the Lord in churches in Beach, ND, Wilbaux, MT, Medora, ND; Westminster, VT Hubbardton, VT and finally in his home church in West Rutland, VT. His last day on the pulpit was March 16, 2025.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Jean (Humphreys) Hults, and two daughters Jennifer (Hults) Golis and her husband Dennis of Sauquoits, NY and Carrie (Hults) Archibald and her husband Brian of Elk Grove, CA, 2 grandchildren Nicholas Charles Golis and Tatum Elisabeth Golis, a sister Dorothy (Hults) Mason and her husband David of North Clarendon, 3 sisters-in-law Sallie (Marsh) Hults of Castleton, Faye (Humphreys) Wener of West Rutland, and Joan (Humphreys) Fuller of St. John’s, Newfoundland. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved his family dearly.

He was predeceased by his parents, and 2 brothers, Dr. William Hults and George T. Hults.

He devoted his life to God though his ministry, his country though his service and his family though his love.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held 3pm Saturday May 3, 2025 at the United Church of West Rutland. Burial with Full military honors will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Rutland, VT.

Arrangements are with the Durfee Funeral Home.
