Wilma Sue Burns, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at the age of 88 in Westland, Michigan. Born on November 21, 1936, in Woodbury, Tennessee, Wilma's life was a testament to the power of generosity and the joy of simple pleasures.
The daughter of the late Cecil Duggin and Eliza Larkin, Wilma grew up in a world that was very different from today, but her warmth and compassion were timeless. She was a sister to the late Sally and Donald Duggin, whose memories she held close to her heart throughout her life.
Wilma's journey took her to Westland, Michigan, where she built a life full of love and laughter. She dedicated over 30 years of service to the Ford Motor Company, retiring with a legacy of hard work and enduring friendships. Her colleagues remember her as a woman who brought light and laughter into every room she entered.
Her home was her pride and joy, a place where she cultivated beauty both in her garden and within the walls where her family grew. Wilma's flower gardens were a splash of color that brightened the neighborhood, and her care for the local strays showed her boundless love for all creatures. She was the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone about anything, and her stories were as captivating as they were heartfelt.
Wilma's sense of adventure was evident in her annual walks across the Mackinac Bridge, an impressive feat she accomplished about 18 times. She wore this accomplishment like a badge of honor, a symbol of her determination and zest for life.
Wilma's legacy is carried on by her loving children, Lee Nelson (Dawn) Burns and Charles Lester Burns, who were the apples of her eye. Her granddaughter, Alisha (Spencer) Donaldson, and great-granddaughter, Dre Donaldson, were sources of immense pride and joy. She poured her love into her family, and it is a love that will continue to flourish for generations.
Those who knew Wilma will remember her as a loving, kind, and generous soul. She had the unique ability to make everyone feel special and valued, and her presence was a comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we bid farewell to Wilma Sue Burns, we celebrate a life lived with an open heart and open arms. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who carry her memory. Wilma's journey on this earth may have come to a close, but the stories of her love, kindness, and generosity will echo through the ages.
