Marjorie J. Verhoeven (1945.12.30-2025.04.27)

The evening of April 27 marked the peaceful passing of Marjorie Verhoeven (Marj), in

her 79th year. An incredibly compassionate and generous soul, Marj dedicated her life

to helping others, always ready to lend a hand to those in need.

Born to Irene (née Halaska) and Robert Verhoeven, Marj was a devoted sister to

Lorraine Harvey (née Verhoeven) and Lloyd Verhoeven. She had a remarkably long

career, spanning over 40 years as a clerk in Accounting at Wentworth Mold before

retiring in 2011.

Marj always found joy in the magic of cinema and literature, with international films

holding a special place in her heart. She embraced stories from all around the world,

eager to experience new perspectives. She also loved classical and jazz music, with

classical music accompanying the hours leading to her passing. She was also the family

historian and story teller. In her last couple of months, she spent hours and hours

recounting numerous family stories intertwined with humor and folksiness. In some

ways, Marj was a maverick. She was ahead of her time in her understanding of race and

social norms.

Throughout her life, Marj helped all manner of people, from the homeless, those with

addictions and/or mental illness, family and friends, neighbours, church members,

newcomers, to inmates; enriching the lives of countless individuals. She will surely be

remembered for her kindness, generosity to a fault, and unwavering support for those

around her.

May Marj rest in peace, knowing that she had touched our lives with her amazing

compassion and generosity. She didn’t want a service, and simply wished for our

thoughts and prayers. Donations to Hamilton Burlington SPCA and the Canadian Cancer
