BOUDREAU, Edith (Ida Hattie)
Pictou
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Edith (Ida Hattie) Boudreau, on April 26, 2025, at the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit in New Glasgow, NS, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 7, 1930, in Arichat, Edith was one of 14 children of the late Peter and Laura Dorey. On July 4, 1948, she married the love of her life, the late Melvin Boudreau. In 1955, they moved to Pictou, where they built a beautiful life together, sharing 62 wonderful years of marriage.
A devoted member of Stella Maris Catholic Church in Pictou, Edith lived her faith daily, offering prayers for anyone in need and finding strength and joy in her relationship with God.
Family was Edith’s greatest pride and joy. She leaves behind her three loving sons, Steve (Brenda), Calvin, and Royden (Angela) Boudreau; her cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Mikal) Boudreau, Stephanie (Nick) Porter, Kelly (Annie) Boudreau, Corey (Kayla) Boudreau, Natalie (Peter) Fraser, and Amanda (Cole) Anderson; and her adored great-grandchildren, Connor and Adam Boudreau, Nate and Evan Boudreau, Nora and Claire Stibir-Brandt, Westin Boudreau, Benjamin and Hannah Fraser, Chloe and Emma Anderson. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews; her sisters, Alice Landry, Amelia (Ronnie) Ross, and Coreen (Wilfred) Bouchard; and her brother, Valma Dorey.
Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband, Melvin; her sisters, Beatrice Breau and Doris Smith, Mable and Irene in infancy; her brothers, Herbert and Adrian Dorey, Fred and Numan Bona; and her dear friend, John Brown.
Known for her warm hospitality, Edith loved welcoming family and friends into her home. Nothing brought her more joy than a house full of laughter, lively conversation, and her delicious home-cooked meals and baked treats. She was an avid card player and treasured many evenings playing cards at home and at the New Horizon Club.
Edith’s remarkable sense of humor and infectious laughter filled every room she entered, lifting spirits and leaving everyone around her feeling better. We are deeply blessed to have shared in her extraordinary life and will forever cherish the countless memories she gifted us.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Shiretown Nursing Home for the friendship, care, and love they gave Edith throughout her final years. She adopted them all as part of her extended family. Special thanks as well to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Aberdeen Hospital Emergency Department, Fourth Floor, and Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, on Friday, May 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass and Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, May 3, at 11:00 am. at Stella Maris Catholic Church. Donations in Edith’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
