Steve Anthony Capps, 67, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away April 26, 2025, at UK Hospice.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Steve lived a life rooted in devotion—to his faith, his family, and the passions that defined him. Born and raised with a deep love for Kentucky, Steve made his home in Lexington, where he built a life centered around the things he cherished most.
He spent his career working with thoroughbred racehorses, a profession that combined his love of animals, the sport of kings, and the heartbeat of his home state. Whether at the track or in the barn, Steve was known for his unwavering dedication, work ethic, and deep respect for the animals and people he worked with.
Steve was a man who loved his family, his country, fast cars, football Saturdays, and the thrill of horse racing. But above all else, he loved God. He was the steady hand, the warm heart, and the joyful presence that held everyone close. Being “Papaw” to his granddaughter Lana was one of his greatest joys—he cherished every moment with her.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Rhonda Capps; his daughter, Stephanie Capps; his son, Fred “Donut” Capps; and his granddaughter, Lana Miller. He also leaves behind many friends and loved ones who were touched by his honesty, loyalty, and the quiet strength he carried in every part of his life.
Steve’s presence was a gift—steady and true. He showed us what it meant to be fully present, to care deeply, and to live with purpose. He will be missed beyond measure but remembered with love, pride, and gratitude.
“Then I heard a voice from heaven say, ‘Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” — Revelation 14:13
