Francis J. Goodhue Obituary

Francis J. Goodhue, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born in Boston to the late Margaret (Sexton) Goodhue and Francis H. Goodhue. Frank graduated from Melrose High School in 1959.

Frank was a man of many trades—he enjoyed an early career as a draftsman at GE, then built a successful business as a general contractor serving industrial clients. Later, he joined the Massachusetts Highway Department, where he supervised bridge replacement and repair projects.

Endlessly curious and intelligent, he embraced every hobby with gusto. He learned to fly a plane and captain a boat, and loved photography, ballroom dancing, blues music, boating, politics, and motorcycles. In retirement, he co-hosted and produced a weekly talk show on local cable TV. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and Fish and Game Club and valued the many friendships made over the years.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine (Malenchini) Goodhue; his son, Francis D. Goodhue and daughter-in-law Maura Goodhue; his daughter Stephanie Curtis and son-in-law Joey Curtis; his grandchildren: Daniel with loving partner Allie Pagliughi, John with wife Leslie, Jaden, and Harrison. Frank was the proud great-grandfather of six—Rylan, James, Aidan, Emma, Jack, and Charlie. He also leaves behind his sister, Ruth Callahan, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held on May 7, 2025, from 4:00–7:00pm at Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose. A Funeral Mass will be held on May 8, 2025, at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose, followed by an Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St., Melrose. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, and for those who wish, donations in Frank’s memory to Boston Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project would be a meaningful way to honor his life.
