Ruthiemae Lane, age 92, of Altoona, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruthiemae was born on September 17, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Richard and Elvira (Pontious) Dondlinger. She graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to marry Carl Lane, with whom she raised three children.

Ruth found joy and purpose in her work, holding positions at Fox Shopper, Gordon Wholesale, and later at Metro Kids. There, she especially enjoyed sharing crafts and card games with the children in her care before and after school.

Known for her strength, independence, and unwavering loyalty to her family, Ruth was a beloved role model to all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, David Lane; daughters, Sue (Jim) Miranda and Sandra Stokley; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Kathy Kroll; brother, Dick (Phyllis) Dondlinger; and sisters-in-law, Mary Dondlinger and Marie Lane.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lane; parents, Richard and Elvira Dondlinger; daughter, Sheryl Lane; brother, William Dondlinger; and son-in-law, Pete Stokley.

The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Iles Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. A reception will be held downstairs at the funeral home following the service, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
