Rusty Slack Obituary

Rusty Slack (53) passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a member of Siloam Church. He loved taking road trips and managed to travel to every state except Hawaii. He had a passion for food, whether traveling, trying different cuisines or cooking. He enjoyed going to Ole Miss baseball games and he loved taking his 3 granddaughters on different adventures to Tishomingo State Park and a host of vacations to the mountains, beach and to Disney World. He also enjoyed his annual trip to squirrel camp with his Martin family and going to play golf with his sons.

Rusty fought a courageous battle with cancer for 5 1/2 years. In 1977, he was baptized at Little Creek Baptist Church by Bro. Elbert Ray Bennett.

Rusty graduated from New Site High School in 1990 and went to work painting for Robert Young for 13 years. He married the love of his life, Jennifer Echols, on September 2, 1994 and they raised three children together.

In 2004, Rusty went back to school to pursue a degree in education. He graduated from Ole Miss in 2006 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and went to teach at Marietta Elementary for 17 years.

During his time at Marietta he became a very dedicated and accoladed coach for not only Marietta, but New Site as well. He coached a variety of sports including basketball, baseball, softball, football and golf. He holds the record for the most wins in Marietta Elementary history including two 5 county wins. He was also one of the founding sponsors of the Marietta Elementary Student Bible Club.

Services are 5 pm Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Zion Rest Church of Christ with Bro. Donny Riley and Bro. Tony Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Forked Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-5 pm Tuesday at Zion Rest Church of Christ.

Rusty is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jennifer Echols Slack of Marietta; his sons, Will Slack and Ben Slack of Marietta; his daughter, Whitnie Brown (Andrew) of Marietta; his parents, Jerry & Nancy Slack of Marietta; his brother, Scott Slack (Kristi) of Marietta; his sisters, KK Bullock (Ricky) of Marietta and Laura Burns (Greg) of Booneville; his grandmother, Maxine Martin of New Site and his beloved granddaughters, Georgie Kate, Swayze and Hadley Brown of Marietta.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Martin and Waymon & Evie Slack.

Pallbearers are Chris McCormick, Tracy Nix, Dallas Cleveland, Marty Barron, Tug Loden and Nick Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Joey Clark, Shane Taylor, Eddie McElroy, Mark Stevens and Marshall Stevens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ballard House (21421 Cinco Park Rd, Katy, TX 77450) in memory or Rusty Slack.
