Charlene F. Landon, age 73, went to be in the comfort of heaven April 27, 2025.
Born in Galion, Ohio on October 26, 1951, to the late Gerald and Arbutus “Boots” Ruhl, Charlene grew up in Johnsville, Ohio and graduated from Northmor High School in 1970.
During a chance visit to the Fairfield County Fair, Charlene spotted the most handsome man — someone she often said reminded her of Elvis with his dark hair and dark eyes. She refused to leave until they spoke, and just three months later, on January 19, 1974, she married the love of her life, Harold Landon Jr.
Charlene began her career at the Columbus Police Department but later took time off to raise their two children, to whom she dedicated her heart and soul. She not only gave them a strong foundation in their faith but also showed up — loudly and proudly — at every game, performance, or event, never hesitating to yell at the refs if needed. This same dedication was extended to her grandchildren.
When she returned to the workforce, Charlene spent several years at Maple Run Veterinary Clinic before retiring from CME Federal Credit Union in 2012.
Charlene had a passion for travel and was always eager for her next getaway - especially if it meant spending time with family or friends. Her journeys took her to the Bahamas, Hawaii, Alaska, Las Vegas, Tennessee, Missouri, Florida, and the Carolinas, but she was never happier than when she could sit and watch the ocean. A loyal Ohio State football fan, she never wanted to miss a game. Her love for the Buckeyes may have been sealed the day she received a marriage proposal during an OSU game, a memory she cherished deeply.
Charlene will be remembered for her deep devotion and unwavering support for her family. She is survived by her children, Douglas Landon of Westfield, IN, and Brandi (Benjamin) Berry of Bellville, OH, as well as her beloved grandchildren: Ethan, Waverly, and Ariana Landon, and April and Landon Berry. Siblings, Ruth Ann (Rick) Parrott of Bryan, OH and Joe (Faye) Ruhl of Mt. Gilead, OH. Sister-in-laws, Deb Ruhl of Mt. Gilead, Judy Whittington of Lancaster, OH and Cheryl Capps of Bremen, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Landon Jr.; her parents, Gerald and Arbutus Ruhl; her in-laws, Harold and Fay Landon; her brother, Steve Ruhl; nephew, Sean Miller; niece Reneá Thompson-Johnson and her grandson, Gage Berry.
Charlene’s legacy is one of love, strength, and fierce loyalty — she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Charlene’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Mount Gilead Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
