Emilia Bucci Bertolo

​Emilia Bucci Bertolo, a longtime resident of Astoria, NY, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at the age of 98. Born in Fianona, Croatia, on August 23, 1926, Emilia was the second oldest of seven children born to Rodolfo Bucci and Giuliana Hreglia. Her life journey took her across continents and touched the lives of many.

​In her youth, Emilia moved to Trieste where she met and married the love of her life, Innocenzo Bertolo. In November 1950, they welcomed their beloved daughter, Nevella. Seeking new opportunities and joining family and friends Emilia, Ino, and Nevella immigrated to America in 1958. Once in the US, Emilia utilized her talent as a seamstress in the bustling garment district of New York City. Ino, a skilled tailor, worked in high-end men’s clothing shops. Together, they established a small, successful tailor business in New York City and made their home in the vibrant community of Astoria.

​Beyond her talents as a seamstress, Emilia was renowned for her delicious homemade gnocchi and cream puffs, which were always a highlight at family gatherings and celebrations. She was an active parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church for many years. Her beautiful voice graced the Italian choir, and she was a dedicated member of the Italian American Catholic Association (IACA), cherishing her heritage and community. Above all, Emilia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

​Emilia was predeceased by her husband Innocenzo and her siblings. She is survived by her loving daughter Nevella and son-in-law Jimmy Marigliano; her grandchildren Julie (Chuck) Callery and Jamie Marigliano; and her cherished great-grandchildren Emilia, Charlie, and Teddy Callery.

​The wake will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Farenga Funeral Home in Astoria, Queens. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Astoria, Queens.
