Donna passed away at the Shoal Lake Care Home on April 27, 2025 at the age of 89.

Born to Danny and Clara McFadyen (nee: Cuntz) in 1935 in Shoal Lake. She attended school in Shoal Lake graduating from high school and continuing on to Teacher’s College in Winnipeg.

Donna taught at the Green Bluff one room school from 1954 - 1956 and speaks fondly of her time at Green Bluff and her students.

Donna continued her teaching career at the Strathclair Community School from 1956-1958.

Donna married Jim Mackie on December 26, 1955 and eventually moved to the family farm 1/2 mile from Strathclair, where they raised their 3 daughters.

Donna has always been involved in sports, including skating, baseball and curling. She played and coached baseball, taking the Strathclair girl’s fastball team to the provincial championship in Winnipeg. Donna was active in the Ladies Curling Club for a number of years playing in many ladies and mixed bonspiels and attending provincial Ladies curling championships.

Donna was an active member of the United Church as a Sunday school teacher, committee member and volunteer. She was a member of the Lioness Club, Foresters and involved in 4-H.

Donna served as a Ward 2 Counsellor and Town representative for the Strathclair Municipality.

Donna moved from the farm in to Strathclair in 1996 where she enjoyed the next 26 years. Her independent spirit, help from home care and wonderful neighbours kept her in her home until 2023.

She was predeceased by husband Jim (1993), sister Margaret (1928), Father (1936), Mother (1975), brother Les (1982), sister Marjorie (1995), brother Wilf (2006) niece Wendy (2017) and nephew Don (2021).
Donna is survived by 3 daughters Connie and family (Brandon), Carma (North Vancouver), Donnalyne and partner (Port Coquitlam) and several nieces and nephews.
