Roy Albert Dunning, Jr., 71, of Star, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Bietz officiating.

Born in Guilford County, NC, on October 16, 1953, Mr. Dunning was the son of the late Roy Dunning, Sr., and Grace Cochran Dunning. He had retired from SunBelt Furniture Xpress as a truck driver. Mr. Dunning was a airplane enthusiast who enjoyed building planes and spending time with his many friends at the Montgomery County Airport. Riding his motorcycle, going to fiddlers conventions, and watching hummingbirds were things he enjoyed doing in his spare time. Mr. Dunning was also known for his delicious persimmon pudding.

In addition to his parents Mr. Dunning was preceded in death by his step mother, Celia Y. Dunning.

He is survived by his sons, Matthew Dunning and wife Jessica, Benjamin Aaron Dunning and wife Lauren; daughter, Hannah Lynes and husband Geoff; sisters, JoAnn Sapp and husband Lee, Judy Burke and husband Gary; grandchildren, Elijah Dunning, Noah Dunning, Ethan Lynes, Karsen Lynes, Lawson Lynes, and Maci Lynes.

The family will receive friends from 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. at Ridge Funeral Home, prior to the memorial service.
