Richard Burnis Dixon of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away on April 26, 2025, at the Heart to Heart Hospice Center in Evansville, IN. Richard was born July 15, 1936, in Ridgeway, IL to Estel “Pat” Dixon and Dorothy (Trousdale) Dixon Blackburn, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by the love of his life, Mary Margaret, who he married June 2, 1957; daughter, Deborah (George) Morgan; and son, Richard S. (Lisa) Dixon. Grandchildren include Benjamin Morgan, Sethlyn (Alex) Stewart, Nathaniel (Shannon) Dixon, Jade (Hayden) Moore. Great-grandchildren Weston and Whitley Moore, Lainey and Collins Dixon, and Haelyn and Henley Stewart. Also, surviving are his sister, Marilyn (Kay) Curits; sister-in-law, Benneta Preston; and brother-in-law, Norman (Betty) Trousdale, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant sons, Richard Joseph and David Kent Dixon; and his sister, Phyllis Broster.
Richard was a graduate of Carmi High School, he attended Southern Illinois University and served his country in the U.S Army. He was a farmer and farm implement salesman. He was the recipient of many outstanding sales awards from International Harvester and Case International.
Richard and Mary enjoyed traveling and spending time at their Kentucky Lake home.
Per Richard’s request, he will be laid to rest at Union Ridge Cemetery in Herald, IL next to his infant sons and among many generations of family. His graveside service will be held at the cemetery on April 30, 2025, at 11:00 am. Family and friends are welcome to attend his service and a fellowship meal following at The Red Barn (next to cemetery).
