Mr. John Durward Coburn Sr., 92, of Panama City, FL, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 with his family by his side. He was born on May 8, 1932 in Evergreen, AL into the family of John and Jewel Coburn, who had three girls and two boys, with John being the third sibling. John graduated from Evergreen High School.
John joined the United States Air Force serving in the Korean Conflict. After a year of schooling, John was selected to become an “aircraft instrument systems tech” and was sent to Tyndall Air Force Base where he remained until his four year tour in the military was over. After his military service was over, John joined civil service where he worked for 32 years until his retirement.
John was a faithful member of the Jenks Avenue Church of Christ.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie Coburn; granddaughter, Alethia Shumaker; grandson, Joshua Shumaker; brother, Herman Coburn; sister, Mae Belle Teate.
He is survived by two children, Lisa Royston and husband James, John D. Coburn Jr. and wife Traci; one sister, Margaret Hamilton; grandchildren, Andrew Shumaker, Rose Coburn and John C. Coburn.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Southerland Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM before the service.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Panama City. Military Honors will be accorded.
