Mary H. Navaira Obituary

Mary H. Navaira, a cherished pillar of the San Antonio community, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 26, 2025, at the age of 84, in the same city where she was born. Known affectionately as Mary by friends and family, she was a beacon of love and faith throughout her lifetime.

Born on February 23, 1941, in San Antonio, TX, Mary was the daughter of Crispín and Luz Hernandez, who predeceased her, as did her beloved husband, Emilio Navaira Jr., her son, Emilio Navaira III (Maru), and her sister, Edna Castor (Jesus Castor). She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her surviving family members: her sister, Emma Barreda (Felipe Barreda deceased); her brother, Samuel Hernandez (Irma); her daughter, Yvette Navaira; her son, Raul Navaira; and her adored grandchildren, Emilio IV (Briana), Diego, Destiny, Rodrigo, Emely, Lauren, Pani, and Freeda Navaira.

Mary dedicated 30 years of her life as a bilingual teacher's assistant at Vestal Elementary in the Harlandale Independent School District. Her passion for education and her commitment to her students were evident in her unwavering support and the positive impact she left on many young lives.

Beyond her professional achievements, Mary was a woman of diverse interests and deep faith. Her garden was a testament to her patience and nurturing spirit, a tranquil space where she found joy in the cultivation of flowers and plants. Music filled her home, a reflection of her love for rhythm and harmony in both melody and life. Yet, above all, it was her family and grandchildren who were the true delights of her existence. Mary's love for her family was boundless, as she often said, “I love you more” she nurtured each relationship with the same care and attention she gave to her beloved garden.

Those who knew Mary would describe her as loving, thoughtful, and faith-filled. Her life was a living example of kindness and compassion, and her presence was a comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary's thoughtful gestures and her unwavering support of family and friends will be dearly missed.

As we bid farewell to Mary H. Navaira, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by unwavering faith, love, and dedication to family. She was a woman who not only taught us the importance of education but also the value of living a life filled with purpose and grace. Her memory will be treasured, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were touched by her warmth and generosity.

Mary's love and teachings have become an integral part of the lives she touched, and her legacy will continue to live on through her family and the countless lives she enriched.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held May 6, 2025, 4pm-8pm with a rosary at 6pm at Castle Ridge Mortuary in San Antonio, TX - 8008 Military Dr. W, San Antonio, TX, 78227.

A final viewing will be held May 7, 2025, 9am-10am followed by a mass at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church at 11am. It will be a time for friends and family to gather, share memories, and honor the remarkable woman who graced our lives with her presence.

Mary H. Navaira will be laid to rest beside her loving husband and son at San Juan Cemetery preceding the mass, in San Antonio, TX, where her story began and where it gently closed, surrounded by the city and the people she loved so dearly.
