Willy Loewen Obituary

Willy Loewen passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on May 28, 1936, in Filadelfia, Chaco, Paraguay, Willy lived a life defined by perseverance, courage, and deep love for God and his family.

From a young age, Willy took on great responsibility, leaving school at 12 to run the family farm when his father fell ill. Through hardship and hard work, he built a life filled with resilience and joy, always cherishing the warmth of family and community.

Willy’s adventurous spirit led him to carve a new life from the jungles of Paraguay and later brought him across continents — first to Germany, then to Canada — making the sacrifice and embracing an unfamiliar way of life to create a better future for his family. No task was too great; from farming to brick-laying, he did whatever it took to provide and support his loved ones.

He was a devoted husband to Maria for 62 years, a loving father to Karin Wiens (& Wilf), Nancy Sniegocki (& Conrad), and Eldon Loewen (& Rose), and a cherished Opa to his grandchildren: Myles (& Sierra), Jared, Kurtis, Celine (& Curtis), Micaela, Claudette, Julia (& Elias), and Caleb (& Cynthia); and great-grandchildren Myles Jr., Titan, Eli and Sophie . His teasing spirit, steadfast character, and gentle faith touched the lives of all who knew him.

Even in his later years, facing heart failure, Willy showed remarkable courage and resilience, never complaining, always pressing forward with grace. His life stands as a testimony to God's faithfulness and the power of love, sacrifice, and perseverance.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A special thank you to the staff at Heritage Place in Pleasant Manor for their compassion and kindness towards Willy in his final months. We appreciate the incredible care he received.

The family welcomes all to a visitation at Tallman Funeral Home, 3277 King Street, Vineland, on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, starting at 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by light refreshments. Feel free to come for the visitation, the service, or both, as you wish.

In lieu of flowers, and to honour Willy’s heart for family and hard work, donations can be made to Shelter Helps. He would have loved to have been able to go on a trip with Shelter to build houses himself, but never had the opportunity. Your gift will help provide safe, secure homes to families in El Salvador – a gift that can change a family’s future. Donate at www.shelterhelps.com/tributes and if desired, eCards can be sent to the family at loeweneldon@gmail.com.
